Technology of the Industrial Revolution

The Industrial Revolution brought us a lot of new, useful technology, a lot of which we still use today. You've listened to your classmates present powerpoints about the usefulness of many of these new inventions. In your opinion, is there one invention from the industrial revolution that we couldn't get along without in today's world? Why is it the MOST important?

  1. I think during the Industrial Revolution, the most important invention that we would probably not be able to live without is electricity. I think electricity is the most important invention during the Industrial Revolution because it helped people live a better and more successful life. Without electricity people would not be able to work during the day and do their jobs. For example people would not be able to perform operations or important things like that. Or people would not be able to get around to other places.

  2. I think that penicillin is the most important invention because it helps fight diseases. Most people think that electricity is the most important invention but people got along just fine in the days before electricity, there biggest problems weren't that they had no electricity but that they were dieing of diseases and wars but one of those problems gets solved with the invention of penicillin. That is why I think that penicillin was the most important inventions of the industrial revolution not electricity or any other invention.

  3. In my opinion, penicillin is the most important invention from the Industrial Revolution because it helps cure diseases. Most of the other inventions are just luxuries that make it easier for people to do things and are not completely necessary in real life. The main invention that is close to penicillin in its usefulness is electricity, but even that isn't strictly necessary; people only feel it is because they've become used to having it. Most of what it does can be done by something else, such as candles instead of light bulbs or people using their hands instead of motors. Practically the only kind of things that electricity is irreplaceable for are things like televisions, radios, and computers. They can be useful, but people won't get sick if they can't see their favorite TV program, and won't starve from not chatting with their friends online. Even if entertainment was something people needed to live, there are things called books. However, penicillin is the only thing that can kill bacteria when they're already in your body; even antiseptics only work before people are infected and penicillin can prevent infections too if taken beforehand.

  4. I think that the sewer system is the most important invention of the industrial revolution and we probably could not survive without it. Lately, there has been a lot of news about pollution and global climate change. This problem was at a high before sewers were invented because every bit of trash and waste was being thrown out into the street. Can you imagine if every time we went outside, everything, from the street to the rivers is all stinky and full of trash? And we thought the Charles River was bad! Everyone would be smelling this all the time and therefore would be less motivated to go outside which could lead to lack of exercise and a plethora of other problems as great as a failing government, which also started to happen during the Industrial Revolution when a large government building was built near an overly polluted river. Having a place for waste to go, the sewer system, is probably one of the most used inventions in the modern world, even though it doesn't get acknowledged as much as it should.

  5. To me, the most important invention of the industrial revolution was electricity for many reasons. Electricity includes things such as cars, lights, computers, telephones, etc. The invention of electricity lead us to the creations of more advanced technology. I believe that electricity is the most important invention of the industrial revolution because it keeps us in touch with people. It gives us the opportunity to communicate with people far away that we cannot visit often. We need lights to see what we are doing in the dark, and if we didn't have them, people would only be able to work so long in a day. Electricity also helped in the advancement of transportation too.

  6. I think the most important invention is electricity. Withiout electricity we wouldnt have cars, computers, and tv. It also lead to many other inventions of this time. It also lets people communicate with eachother. Electricity also gives us light. Which is very important, it also gives us a lot of transportation. So thats why I think it is the most important invention.

  7. By far the most important is electricity, almost every known technology we have to day neds electricity to use. Without this invention humanity would not be anywhere close to where it is now.

  8. In my opinion , the most important invention of the industrial revolution was electricity . So much of what we do today is only possible because of electricity . Lights , telephones and cars are all possible because of electricity . Electricity allows people to work past dark . Also , if you needed a surgery or something that could be fatal to you if it goes wrong , electricity helps doctors an nurses see so that they chances of success are much higher .

  9. In my opinion the most important invention is the electricity because it powers most of the things we use. It helped in transportation telephone's and light. We wouldn't be able to as we do now without electricity.

  10. I think that the most important piece new technology that came from the industrial revolution is by far electricity. First of all, without electricity many of the other inventions that we discussed wouldn't have been invented because they were either powered by electricity, made using electricity, or discovered through electricity. Also, electricity is a much better power source than things like coal, because it is more efficient and better for the environment. Lastly, all areas of science have benefitted from electricity, such as medicine. Without electricity, the machines that create certain types of medicine would run as smoothly and couldn't have been created in the first place.

  11. Although electricity won, I bieleve that the sewer system was the most important. This is becuase electricty is a luxury. Where as with out the sewer system, it would directly affect your health. Also in order to strive foward and create things such as electricity, we would need to focus on the problem at hand. At the time that problem was that human waste was being cast out into the street were it gave people diseases. So in a sense with out the sewer system, electricity would never have been invented

  12. I think in our day and age we need electricity. Without it we could not get along with out it. We need electricity for almost everything with machines these days. Without it would be alot harder to be in school for such long hours because the heat and the oven all run of electricity. we would also need alot of candles to replace the light. for pretty much every aspect of society we use electricity to help us because it makes all of the activities easier and less time consuming. it is the best invention because without most of the inventions today would not work.

  14. I think the most important invention is photography, because for one thing, people can make a living off doing photography, such as for magazines and book covers, but there is also films and things as such as this. If we did not have photography the world would be colorless and boring, and we might not remember half the things that had once occurred, because a picture can tell a story, as it is worth a thousand words, and it can also be posted online and be worth a lot of money. It's also a great pastime and something important for models, who have jobs and make a living by modeling for photography.

  15. I think penicillin is the most important invention because it saves lives. People were getting around fine without electricity, but many people were dying from lack of medication. Penicillin helps fight diseases and electricity is more of a luxury. I think more people would want to have the right medication and not die than not being able to be cured of disease and have electronics. Even if we did have computers to research cures, without the invention of penicillin we wouldn't have the antibiotic anyway.

  16. I think electricity is the most important invention because electricity is needed for many reasons. Electricity helped benefit many more technology's. If it weren't for technology than inventing other technology's wouldn't have been possible. Electricity allows people to work later hours when it's dark. Some jobs require light because for jobs like nurses, doctors, dentists, surgeons, and etc its really important to see what your doing. There resoonsible for any mistakes done to their patients. With electreicity patients are all safe and no mistakes will happen. Electricity helps everyone. Safety is important. It helped that. Also for students who have schoolwork to do they would struggle doing it later on. And many kids do sports and things after school. so by the time it get dark homework would have to be done. But its hard to do homework in the dark without any source of light.
