Using the Atomic Bomb

Considering the options that President Truman had when making the decision to use the atomic bomb, do you think President Truman made the correct decision, or do you think he should have gone in a different direction? Explain. Also, now that we know the long term effects of using nuclear weapons, do you think the U.S. owes the Japanese an apology for using the bombs? Why or why not?

Killing Bin Laden

Last week, the U.S. rejoiced with the news of the death of public enemy number one, Osama Bin Laden. People flowed into city streets and cheered, sports arenas celebrated with "God Bless America" and even here at AHS, students and staff marched onto the front lawn to say the Pledge of Allegience. Yes, he was number one on the FBI's most wanted list, but even after news of Hitler's suicide in 1945, people didn't celebrate in the same manner as we did last week. Do you think it was right to celebrate the death of Bin Laden in the way we did in the U.S.?

The Treaty of Versailles- Fair or Unfair?

World War I was the first war of its kind. No one could forshadow the amount of destruction it would eventually cause, not just in war casualties, but economic, political and physical destruction as well. When the war ended, the Allied Powers, specifically Great Britain and France, inflicted heavy consequences on Germany of which they would never recover from. Do you think the treaty was fair, considering the damage that was caused? Can you blame Great Britain and France for their demands? If there was one aspect of the Treaty of Versailles that you could change, what do would it be and why?
